World Cup and 3D

Watched Spain Vs Germany Semifinals in 3D! It was quite an experience since it's the first time I watched a live match from this perspective. It's nice, but I still think the 3D technology still isn't ripe enough for prolonged usage. Then again, 90 min is probably still good for current technology. It's probably the first time when I felt that even the ads look interesting. That does really provide an interesting perspective of ads which normally take on the note of channel switching.

Another interesting issue is the 1-2 sec delay between 3D and 2D live streams. It's perfectly fine if you're in a room that only streams either of these channels. But in a big gathering where both of these streams are available, you tend to have this expected result when you're in the 3D group which lags behind 2D. This kinda spoils the fun since you probably already know whether a goal is imminent based on the response of the 2D group. If you hear a goal outcry from the other group, you probably can expect a goal coming up. On that note, it's also interesting to watch the expressions of the 2 groups, where the slower group prominently lag the other by 2 sec.

Work
It has been a really crazy 3 months since I returned to work in April. Development work usually starts only after office hours, which is definitely unreasonable. Oh well, as a person responsible of my own projects, what has to be done, needs to be done. It's definitely a 2 man job cast upon a single person. Fortunately, such crazy schedule is finally expected to end shortly after National Day. Boss finally brought in another guy to help out. Hopefully that will ease the situation to reasonable standards, so that I can resume my usual activities after work, which has inevitably halted due to the heavy workload. Alrighty, just another couple months to endure.

On a similar note in work, it does irritate me big time when it takes me more than 10 hours to create a tool to do a particular job that is technically not directly related to current job, and then have the operations person deploying it being too lazy to spend just 10 min understanding the required configurations and making sure it's right. Really, don't come complaining about the tool when time (as in time after office hours) was spent trying to make your life easier, and you still expect the configurations are automatically filled in correctly for you.

Also, did I not mention that this same guy was the person who established a certain process, did not follow it and then feel irritated that the changes didn't work correctly? If the process expects steps A to D, and he didn't do step C because of various reasons not to, of course D will not work correctly, since it's dependent on C! Yes, that took me an additional 2 hrs of my valuable work time trying to fix the mess he created. It also doesn't help that he doesn't read the release notes I painfully put together to make sure things are clear for smooth deployment. Really, if the intended audience doesn't really read it, then why should I spend time trying to make sure it's crystal clear?

Oh yes, and I'm seriously impressed with his attention span, which is comparable of maybe a 5 yr old despite the fact that he's more than 10 years older than I am. I was trying to go through the deployment work with him, and he could suddenly switch to looking at emails, IM with someone else or look at other websites in the middle of it! WTH?!?! Yes, and I was stupidly standing right beside him all along as he IM with his friends or look at the stuff he's trying to purchase on Ebay.

heh~ 2 paragraphs of events, and 4 paragraphs of complaints. Best. Hopefully after August things will be better. But one thing I know for sure (err, ok, likely), all this would probably end 1 yr from now. :)

Inspiration Quotes

Maybe God wants us to meet a few wrong people before meeting the right one so that when we finally meet the right person, we will know how to be grateful for that gift

When the door of happiness closes, another opens, but often times we look so long at the closed door that we don't see the one which has been opened for us.

The best kind of friend is the kind you can sit on a porch and swing with, never say a word, and then walk away feeling like it was the best conversation you've ever had.

It's true that we don't know what we've got until we lose it, but it's also true that we don't know what we've been missing until it arrives.

Giving someone all your love is never an assurance that they'll love you back! Don't expect love in return; just wait for it to grow in their heart but if it doesn't, be content it grew in yours. It takes only a minute to get a crush on someone, an hour to like someone, and a day to love someone, but it takes a lifetime to forget someone.

Don't go for looks; they can deceive. Don't go for wealth; even that fades away. Go for someone who makes you smile because it takes only a smile to make a dark day seem bright. Find the one that makes your heart smile.

There are moments in life when you miss someone so much that you just want to pick them from your dreams and hug them for real!

Dream what you want to dream; go where you want to go; be what you want to be, because you have only one life and one chance to do all the things you want to do.

May you have enough happiness to make you sweet, enough trials to make you strong, enough sorrow to keep you human, enough hope to make you happy.

Always put yourself in others' shoes. If you feel that it hurts you, it probably hurts the other person, too.

The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the most of everything that comes along their way.

Happiness lies for those who cry, those who hurt, those who have searched, and those who have tried, for only they can appreciate the importance of people who have touched their lives. Love begins with a smile, grows with a kiss and ends with a tear. The brightest future will always be based on a forgotten past, you can't go on well in life until you let go of your past failures and heartaches.

When you were born, you were crying and everyone around you was smiling. Live your life so that when you die, you're the one who is smiling and everyone around you is crying.
