Not surprisingly, today's post will touch on the newly introduced Ipad from Steve Jobs. I have to admit, I'm truly surprised at this product. It's just out of expectations. I mean, tablets aren't really a new gadget, but this beauty is just out of ordinary. Not sure why, but perhaps its time has arrived.

At 1 GHz, I'm not sure how much it could perform though, but definitely is more than sufficient for most of the normal things we do on a laptop. I wonder how good is its draw function. It's definitely a really good e-reader though, totally trashed the ones from Sony and Amazon, although, I may still prefer the Sony/Amazon one for reading, since it's MUCH less painful on the eye. At least you won't spoil your eyes reading intensively for 2 hrs on an e-reader.

Would really love to lay my hands on one! But come to think of it, it still boils down to the same old question. Would I use it often enough to justify its possession? Looking at my valued Mylo 2. It's extremely valuable when I'm traveling long distances, but during other times, it's a white elephant. Perhaps it goes the same for this. Or perhaps, it doesn't, because one can easily bring it to bed and read a novel from it. Will be nice if i can MSN on it too :) heee~ I'm sure that's possible, with eBuddy and stuff.

Anyway, if it's only used while traveling, a battery life of 10 idle hrs perhaps isn't that appealing. Maybe it could last 6 video hours, which is sufficient for domestic trips though. But for slightly longer trips like those back to sg from US, it still needs some other gadgets on standby. This guy here may just add to a myriad devices that can do video playback. 6 hrs on Ipad, 2 hrs on laptop, 3 hours on Iphone, 9 hrs on Mylo + 9 more hrs on Mylo extra battery. One really bad feature with Apple's gadgets is the in-built battery. That's perhaps one of the pressing reasons why I avoid it. I can't just simply get an extra battery to replace a dead one. If I could, I'd definitely make my Mylo obsolete and get an Ipad.

3G? Wi-Fi? Of course I'm going with WiFi. I'm definitely not going to pay $30 a mth just to be able to use it anywhere! At least not now, when I'm still a poor engineer. After all, I only use it on long trips, which in most cases, involve the airplane where the wireless feature has to be turned off anyway. But with WiFi, this guy is nothing more than a slow touch screen laptop, with cool UI.

Perhaps, it's just another compelling white elephant for me. Good to have on long trips, but that's only a luxury. I don't frequently go on long trips anyway. And if I do, I still have my 3.5" Mylo with 18 hrs of battery life from 2 batteries. When I'm at home, I'll just stick to my 22" monitor (bigger than my bro's!!! hahaha) or the 32" TV set. Why would anyone use such a thing at home, unless of lazy reading on the bed???


Another note on technology. I think this is much more cooler than Ipad. This is simply a beauty. If future movie producers could achieve this level of display, that would really be a breakthrough. Rather than going 3D or 4D, or 4K or 8K resolutions.
