11/11
That date seems to be stagnant on my blog for a long time... Somehow I feel that this number is just so mystical. Many occurrences in my life have claimed association with these numbers... And of course, there are good news associated with it! :) On this day, I received 2 amazing news, each of which could already make my day!
The first was an 150 word essay contest on the theme of employee empowerment. It was an internal company-wide contest, and I was honored to be listed among the runner-ups... That made the second victory I had in years, perhaps the last peak was since TCHS days. Of course, putting studies aside in the calculations. Anyway, the CEO of the company sent a letter to announce the winners and my division's president personally sent a letter of congratulations to me! So did the SVP, ie my big boss. I took like 30 min to write 3 sentences of email response to the Pres. It's kinda rewarding and reassuring to know that my big bosses do take note of such matters and make the effort to recognize such awards. After all, my name was the only one from Sony Electronics and my position is one of the lowliest among the list of vice presidents and senior managers... I guess I was the only free engineer to write in :) Till now I still donno what prize I'll be getting. Best. Well, the second one had a little more technical taste with being the winner of the only creative New Product Idea award in the internal Technical Symposium. Again, I was super surprised when I heard the news, especially given that I'm like one of the newbies in the field, not to say having a barely related Bachelors degree. Needless to say, the other technical paper winners are all PHD holders or at least MS, and have a ton of experience. Coincidentally, during the symposium, a keynote speaker noted that Singapore is the more innovative nation in the world. I guess I should be glad to not let my country down. =) Several interesting stuff followed bec of the award, like dining with pple from high above and having nothing much to talk about. During the award presentation, my SVP presented me with the big cheque (My first BIG Cheque in my Life! :) and even mentioned about my essay contest in front of everybody! It's really amazing what mere recognition can do to one's spirits! I was like over cloud 9 and beyond! =) So yea... imagine these 2 news arrived back to back on 11/11... What a day! =) |
