Went for spa again after work today. Spent a slightly longer time there this time. I guess today must have been more tiring. But I quite enjoy the cool air above and the warm water below.
I really love to spa. The strong jet seems to be quite effective in washing away the weariness of the day, rewarding me for the hard work. Sometimes, I wonder if I would ever get sick of spa-ing, say, if I were to live here for 5 years, like my bro did in Fresno. I really like to conclude that I would not, actually. After all, I've been showering in hot water for the last 20 years, and I still love showering in hot water now! Now I have a big tub of hot water to immerse myself in at my convenience and for free! Why would I get sick of it? Oh well, I guess I'd know the answer when I leave in 2009. More on work. Faith is really something one needs to have when one's a newbie in the industry. Have faith that one will be able to catch up with the others who're more experienced. Have faith that a newbie like myself is able to understand the workings of the complex system. I briefly messed around with the work that has been done, and it really really is a huge pile of s**t! Now I understand why many companies, especially the smaller ones don't like fresh graduates... Cos it's simply out of their capabilities to achieve that level of sophistication. And I also understand why big companies aren't really afraid of people stealing their ideas and compete with them... Cos there really aren't many companies who can do that in the first place, and even if one tries to copy the idea, it'll take the same length of time to do it, unless of course, the programming codes are stolen. Anyway, I can't believe that I actually finished reading the entire book of C programming in the last one week, when it takes an entire semester to do it. And I didn't really work on the the whole day, but only 3-4 hrs a day during the week! So I guess I should be pretty proud of myself, but of course, being able to write a good program is another matter, as that requires practice. Oh well... anyway, I think the C language is so much easier and better than Java. It's so much more flexible. I think I'm starting to like C more now... To think I hated it so much in college when I had to write a stupid simple program with it, and that took me a few days! Grrr! So in short, I really haven't made any contribution to the team as yet. And probably I really shouldn't start till I'm ready. Shouldn't pressure myself, especially when no one is pressuring me. I'm really happy that I found work in the States, because I believe the same position in Singapore would be much more pressurizing in comparison. There's more back-stabbing, and comparing in Singapore, at least. And on top of that, the superior is likely to pressure you more, because time is money. So, finally, one more reason why the States is better than Sg... But this is probably only limited to certain companies... I'm sure most of the companies in the States have work cultures similar to those in Sg. However, other than less pressure, somehow I don't really find the motivation to start work. I mean, I really don't mind, or even love, to go to work, but that's probably only because of the renumeration. When I say motivation, I meant the eagerness to start work everyday, the urge to keep working and hope that the day doesn't pass so quickly, because I'm really have that interest, just like when I was working for Schoofs. That kind of feeling just isn't there. I guess, it's just because I don't really understand the whole thing that they're working on. So the lack of interest and motivation. Probably when I'm being assigned something, I'll get more motivation. But I highly doubt it. Since I'm already so much into the topic of work, I think I'm really lucky to be here. If I were to stick to the job in Chicago, I think I'd not only be paid a lot less (it's exactly 10k less, by the way), but also continue living in a place with a super crazy climate. Stress, is also probably much higher, because it's an Indian consulting firm!!! Consulting firm is already bad enough, it's even run by indians! I mean, I'm really not being racist here, and the point isn't really because they're indians. But Indians and asians in general, belong to the more hardworking category, and so naturally will expect more from the workers. And consulting firms rely on projects from external companies to survive, which means time = a lot of money! If a project is completed earlier, it means there'll be time to squeeze in another! So in short, job in Chicago is bad bad bad! I really sincerely thank God for this. I almost, went there. On to the topic on food. I.really.should.eat.less!!! In college, I used to be really lazy, partly because I had no time, and hence, only have one dish for every meal. Now, I have 2 dishes on average! One main dish, and one side dish of veg or soup. Today even better, I had Jap green curry, half a packet of Unagi, one whole bowl of bok choy with tomatoes, and to finish the meal, I had grapes with cookies and cream ice cream!!! Oh my god! Such is life! hahaha~ What a high price to pay. But I think even after eating so much, I believe the cost of everything is at most 5 bucks, which is still a lot less than eating outside! And come to think of it, if I were to work in Sg, I believe my food expenses wouldn't be much less than what I'd be spending here. I mean, I'd definitely go out for lunch everyday with my colleagues and that would easily be $4 to $5 already. On top of that, if I go out for dinner with friends (since I'm sociable and have so many friends =P), it'll probably be another $5 at least, or even $10-15 if we go to somewhere posher (or eat more!). So after averaging out, the expenses will probably be about $10-$12 a day, which really is comparable to the amount I spent here. But of course, I know that this is a very ridiculous argument, cos I'd probably won't go out everyday for dinner. haha~ unless... there's an inclusion in my life. hiak hiak hiak... Oh well, been BS-ing too much. Time to go. Finished my grapes with cookies and cream alr. Disturb-thy-neighbours time, aka piano time! hehehe~ tataz! |
