OMG!!! What am I doing?!! My mind always strays when I'm seriously at work, ie finals revision. Not that it's bad, but it always comes at the most inappropriate times. Alright, what am I thinking about this time?... My kids...

Kids?!!! Am I kidding???... NO! It's really kids... not kidding!!! Alright, what about kids then?

I was thinking about how I'd raise my kids in future, to mold them into people, hopefully a cut above the rest, or at least positively uniquely different, and so that they can survive in this harsh world, which would be even worse in their time!!! Ahh... Of course, whatever good things dad has taught me, will be passed down. But on top of that, I'd have to include some stuff that I've missed out, like reading. Not that my house doesn't have any books. In fact, I have tons of books at home, just that it was useless on me. I didn't believe in reading when I was young, and hence didn't cultivate that habit then, only regretting it badly now, cos of bad ang mo and GK.

So, I have thought of ways and means to instil interest in reading in my kids next time, especially when such interests may be passed down genetically. First, read along with them. Then as time goes by, assign them a book once a week, and specially find time to sit down and discuss about the book with them so that they learn the way to comment and criticize, and also keep them interested in reading as they know that you are reading it as well. Of course, the standards will increase over time (from ps to college standard), and soon they'd be used to it, before they actually have to use it in school. Of course, should discuss controversial topics as well when they're older. Yeah...

And of course they'll be aptly bilingual, if not trilingual (of course I'll have to work harder on my Canto first... watch more hk serials!!! Ang mo as well... hahah~...) And they'll definitely be like me, Jack of many trades, and a master of a few. Yeah... be ready to pick up new things, but seriously focus on some. I realized that a little late, but nothing is too late. Of course, their interests will not be the same as mine, though some will definitely overlap because of my influence on them when they are young. But their life interests still depend on their encounters, and their innate likings.

Yeap, so in short, an all-rounded person, doesn't have to be the smartest, but capable enough to survive well in the harsh world, a generally independent person, but dependent in a postive way (no man's an island. We have learn to depend on someone at some point in time, especially good friends), and most importantly, not a geek who only knows how to study. Of course, strictly no dating for them till college!!! Mwahahaha~

I even thought of some ways to limit their time on game machines like PS / Wii / Xbox. I'm definitely not stopping them from playing games, in fact, I'm an advocate of games, because games are good for stimulating the mind, but over-indulgence must be avoided. As an electrical engineer and an interested inventor, it's definitely possible to come up with something to limit the power supply to those appliances as well as at the same time lock the power cord to that power supply, so that they can't change power outlets or use extension cords because there is only 1 unique power cord and it's stuck to the locked power outlet, something like the laptop lock. yeah, and a password-encoded timer will be installed to set whatever time desired. mwahahaha~ Too bad, mum and dad are chemical engineers and can't come up with sneaky designs like this one, and hence bro and I were able to come up with all sorts of sneaky ways to seek out the confiscated nintendo when we were young. hehehe~ Come on, it's going to be a keyless future. hehehe~ Scarly my kids are so smart that they could break the code on the timer... hmmm... if that's the case, I'd definitely let them play for as long as they like... cos it shows signs of geniuses already, especially at that age. hahaa~ so in other words, it's not likely to happen. I'd be happy if it does though. hahaha~ hacking at a young age... got future...

hehe~ hopefully my kids will excel better than me next time. I think should be no problem lahz... i'm a great educator... hehe~ plus with some advice from my bro on how to deal with kids, should be able to achieve my objectives... hehehe~ Child education... dun play play man... no joke one... it determines whether they're going to excel or not when they grow up. Of course, must do it in a way that they feel that it's fun instead of stress. Definitely not advisable to stress them since the age of 2. haha~ cos 17 years of education is enough stress on its own already. hehe~ not an easy task...
