Had a conversation with a friend yesterday about someone (a banker) who had gotten a year's bonus because the bank did well that year. And he asked me why did I ever chose engineering when I planned to go on with an MBA. That was really an interesting question, and the answer I have is probably one of the few unwavered ones over the last 2 years of turbulence.

Why did I choose engineering? That's just because I had always wanted to contribute something more meaningful to the world. While I really hope that I'd be able to make a name for myself one day by making something that will be remembered, the very least I can do is to contribute to part of something. At least this is much more interesting than sitting in the office and look at figures and stocks the whole day for one's entire life. That is really a waste of life, in my opinion. Not saying that it's a bad profession, in fact, financially, it's a really good job. The starting pay was 3.8k and after a few years, 5k. But if you glance back at life at the very end of it, you really have nothing really physical to be proud of other than the wealth you've managed to accumulate. You have done nothing to make the world better, or to aid in continuing the existence of Man. You are selfish. What you have done is just to make yourself live better. What you have gained is some fleeting achievements which will soon be forgotten. Of course you can donate your wealth to charity or research like Bill and Warren. :)

Well, why then did I not choose to do Masters or Phd in Engineering, since I harbor such great ambitions? The first and foremost reason is lack of interest and incapabilities. Having done 3 yrs of college have made me realize where the glass wall lies for me in Engineering. Also, ultimately, one person is never sufficient to create something incredible in this age. Teamwork is most important. Leadership is the key to great achievements. The ability to gather like-minded people and the ability to gather the right expertise for the cause is the key to realizing my dreams. I can never do it alone. Well, of course, my qualities as a leader is far far from being a capable one. I still have much to shape. In fact, I think I'm behind a lot of people in this regard, even those who have no intentions of becoming a leader. But it's alright. Given a couple more years of training, I believe I can emerge as an effective leader. hehe~ Maybe can learn from papaya yeo or uncle lee on how to be a powerful leader, in the field of engineering.

Oh well, having visualized this, I suddenly realized how short life is now. May not have enough time to complete what I want to. But it doesn't really matter. The most important thing in life is not just fulfilling ambitions, but to enjoy life on the way, with your family and friends. Do whatever you can, and whatever you cannot, leave it for others to finish. It just doesn't make sense to work all the way until you are old and realize, when you look back, that you forgot to stop and smell the roses.

haha~ so my word to everyone is still what I have preached earlier. Work may be important, but family and friends are even more important. They are the ones who care for you when you are down, who share your joy and tears. Work only work to bring you stress and frustrations, though they do give you a sense of achievement at the end of it. Oh well... talking about work, guess I better start working now. See ya guyz!

Inspiration Quotes

Maybe God wants us to meet a few wrong people before meeting the right one so that when we finally meet the right person, we will know how to be grateful for that gift

When the door of happiness closes, another opens, but often times we look so long at the closed door that we don't see the one which has been opened for us.

The best kind of friend is the kind you can sit on a porch and swing with, never say a word, and then walk away feeling like it was the best conversation you've ever had.

It's true that we don't know what we've got until we lose it, but it's also true that we don't know what we've been missing until it arrives.

Giving someone all your love is never an assurance that they'll love you back! Don't expect love in return; just wait for it to grow in their heart but if it doesn't, be content it grew in yours. It takes only a minute to get a crush on someone, an hour to like someone, and a day to love someone, but it takes a lifetime to forget someone.

Don't go for looks; they can deceive. Don't go for wealth; even that fades away. Go for someone who makes you smile because it takes only a smile to make a dark day seem bright. Find the one that makes your heart smile.

There are moments in life when you miss someone so much that you just want to pick them from your dreams and hug them for real!

Dream what you want to dream; go where you want to go; be what you want to be, because you have only one life and one chance to do all the things you want to do.

May you have enough happiness to make you sweet, enough trials to make you strong, enough sorrow to keep you human, enough hope to make you happy.

Always put yourself in others' shoes. If you feel that it hurts you, it probably hurts the other person, too.

The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the most of everything that comes along their way.

Happiness lies for those who cry, those who hurt, those who have searched, and those who have tried, for only they can appreciate the importance of people who have touched their lives. Love begins with a smile, grows with a kiss and ends with a tear. The brightest future will always be based on a forgotten past, you can't go on well in life until you let go of your past failures and heartaches.

When you were born, you were crying and everyone around you was smiling. Live your life so that when you die, you're the one who is smiling and everyone around you is crying.
